Ailing industry hoping for some festive cheer

Pubs are closing a rate of around five a day

For many of Britain’s pubs, this could be their last Christmas. For eons, people have gathered to meet friends in their local and complement their conversations with a few pints of their favourite tipple. Many make it a ritual to pop into their local on Christmas morning for a drink, before heading back home for Christmas dinner with their loved ones.

But the pub is increasingly coming under threat and is in danger of becoming a dying breed. Around five are closing every day, and supermarkets and off licences take away business by offering heavily discounted alcohol. Read the rest of this entry »
